| You can just jump in straight away and start chatting without
doing anything complicated but if you would like to have a registered
name, there are some IRC basics to learn. |

Registering Your Nickname |
|
|
|
|
| Step 1: |
Jump into DoomChat.
You can choose your nickname before you press CONNECT, or after
you enter the room. |
| Step 2: |
If you didn't choose your nickname before connecting to chat,
you can do it inside the chat by typing /nick <your_nickname>
in the chat window.
If someone
else has already registered the name you choose,
you will be asked to identify yourself with a password
- because this is already registered, the server
will take away your name within 120 seconds.
Too bad, you will have to choose another nickname. |

| Step 3: |
If your nickname still stays after 120 seconds, it is free
to use. Time to register it.
Type /ns
register <password> <email> in the chat window.
<password> is the password
you would like to use, and <email>
must be valid.
| No one will see the password
as long as you don't forget the /
at the very start of
the line. |

| Step 4: |
| Check your email. You should recieve a message from
services@geekshed.net similar
to this: |

| Hi,
You
have requested to register the nickname "SexMachine".
Please
type " /msg NickServ confirm
jc73qo58p " into your IRC client to complete
the
registration.
If
you don't know why this mail has been sent to you, please
ignore it.
This
mailbox is not monitored. Replies to this e-mail will
NOT get responded to.

| As the email says, copy and paste the text in the quotes
into the chat box in doomchat - don't include the spaces,
make sure the first character is /,
not a space. |

Logging In |
|
|
You can use the LOGIN link (top left corner) and enter your
nick and password (ignore the channel key box).
If you let your browser remember the password, you can use the
normal chat link and just enter your nickname and you will be
logged in automatically. |
| Another way to log in is to just jump in with any name, say
Visitor_539, then do the following: |

Type /nick
<your_nickname> |
| Step 2: |
Type /ns
identify <your_password> |
